Halda is preparing for another space mission

While you are reading this, the watchmakers at Halda are replacing the first sapphire crystal of the Space Module with the Hesalite crystal – a space proven material.

As you may know, it is mandatory to exchange the crystal before going to space due to safety precautions. Although the sapphire crystal is scratch resistant, it shatters if broken, making it a hazard in space. The Hesalite crystal, on the other hand, is more sensitive to scratches though almost impossible to shatter. Hence, making it more suited for space missions. Whenever an owner of the Space Module is going to space Halda will exchange the sapphire, and now it is time again.

Earlier, the Halda watch was tested by Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang onboard the space shuttle Discovery, and now it´s time for Halda to enter space again onboard a Russian Soyuz rocket, this time with another astronaut.

2012 Red Dot Design Award goes to Halda Space Discovery

Halda Watch Co is proud to announce that the Halda Space Discovery Limited Edition has received the Red Dot Design Award.

The award is one of the most prestigious design awards one can ever get, often referred to as the ‘Nobel Prize of Design’. The Red Dot is an internationally recognized competition, highly respected by experts in the field as a warranty of great aesthetic forms and lasting trends. With more than 14.000 entries from over 70 countries, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the biggest design competitions in the world.

We are really honored to receive the Red Dot award. It’s a great acknowledgement and an evidence of how hard work actually pays off. So much time has been spent by the Halda team developing the Halda Space Discovery, trying to accomplish the perfect balance between mechanics, advanced functions and design, and this award is a confirmation that we have succeeded. Halda Space Discovery gets even better together with astronauts

We have been very pleased to continuously receive feedback from astronauts who are using the Halda watch as an instrument for research on a regular basis. Consequently the Space Module software has been updated according to their latest findings and demands. The Halda team has fine-tuned the G-Force sensors to optimize the measurements so that quick movements will be filtered, as it otherwise could disturb the measurement. The astronauts are primarily interested in measuring what G-Force the body is exposed to in different situations. We have also added the new function “Mission Mode”, which allows the display to be active all the time during space missions.

Naturally, owners of the Halda Space Discovery are more than welcome to update their Space Module at their earliest convenience, free of charge. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Welcome to visit the Halda watch factory

Recently the popular TV-show Gran Turismo from TV8 visited our watch factory and we got the opportunity to guide the viewers through the manufacturing process of the Halda Space Discovery as well as the history of Halda. I also got to test-drive a unique 1950’s racing car from Veritas equipped with a Halda timing instrument from the same period.
For our international friends we hereby present to you the uncut version with subtitles.

We are proud to announce that Halda have reached an agreement with one of the world’s absolute most luxurious retailer of watches; the newly opened, and spectacular boutique, solely focused on exclusive and exotic timepieces at the flagship store of El Corte Inglés in Madrid, Spain.
The boutique, which is determined only to feature the most exclusive, innovative, and unique watches, found the Halda Space Discovery to be a perfect timepiece for its special section of collector items.

We have received great response from Spain, where some of our very first customers are to be found. Halda Watch Co. is invited to exhibit the Halda Space Discovery at the Gran Turismo Expo 2011 – Selected Car Show. The expo will feature the latest sports and luxury cars from manufacturers such as Lamborghini, Porsche, Jaguar, as well as vintage classics, along with the Halda watch.

Later this fall, on November the 21^st, Halda will be featured in the Gran Turismo tv-show where our CEO Mikael Sandström guides you through the history of Halda and the production process of the Space Discovery watch.

Halda Space Discovery has been put to yet another tough test

One of the hardest tests a timepiece was ever put to is of course the one that was conducted during space mission STS-128, where astronauts truly gave Halda a run for its money.
